Its wide aperture provides for great lighting and detailed clear images. I would recommend this lens to any amateur with a moderate price range: it is loaded with great qualities for its price! Overall, the Sigma 24-70mm EX DG lens takes high-quality consistent pictures, which cease to please me. I use this lens for outdoor nature pictures, sports, and portraits. The zoom range provides good versatility for my average use and I respect that it is built like a tank – it is solid and can be used for rugged purposed, though its 1.7lb weight can be awkward. It is not the quietest lens either in quiet atmospheres the lens focusing will create come noise. I compared images shot at the 2.8 with my other lens (Canon 18-55mm IS), and overall the images were darker with the background being in focus more than the subject – I would not advise shooting in 2.8. At times, there can be a considerable amount of AF searching in low light conditions, despite the fact that the lens showed it being “locked-on” its subject. Even though I like its performance in low light, I have found while shooting in f/2.8, lower quality dark photos with unwanted blurring occur. It’s 82mm focal diameter and f/2.8 – f/22 allows the lens to perform well in low light. This large aperture standard zoom lens covers a nice area from wide-angle to short telephoto. I shoot with a Canon 40D SLR and needed a lens that could perform fast and efficiently in low light conditions as well daylight.
Sigma 24 70 2.8 dg ex upgrade#
I am an amateur photographer and I bought this lens as an upgrade from my basic Canon 18-55mm IS. Pros: Well built, Consistent output, sharp-detailed images, inexpensive, apertureĬons: Low Quality f/2.8, heavy, slow focus, expensive 82mm filters, loud Loaded lens for its price! Built like a tank and takes sharp detailed pics.
Sigma 24 70 2.8 dg ex professional#
Very good bang for the buck Professional lens. Some copies can be a bit soft, but don t worry, just send it off to Sigma under warranty and they will recalibrate it and you will receive it back sharp as a razor! Very sharp, contrasty, and accurate color reproduction as well. Image quality is hard to beat with this lens. It also has a nice petal type lens hood and carrying case too. It also has the special DG coatings to reduce ghosting issues on digital SLRs. It has two(2) SLD elements as well as 3 aspherical(1 molded glass and 2 hybrids) inside to reduce and control chromatic aberrations. This lens is also able to be used on FF sensors as well as your normal crop sensor cameras. Just slide it up or down to activate AF or MF. It gives the lens an excellent place to hold during AF and a nice large ring for MF too. The dual focusing setup is a very nice feature. Not super loud either, which is quite nice.

The AF is very accurate, but a tiny bit slower then its OEM counterparts, but definitely not slow overall. The EX build quality is nothing short of stellar and the finish holds up very well. I have used this lens on a Sigma SD14, Canon 300D, and a Canon 20D and it was fantastic on all three cameras. A bit expensive, but you do at least get what you pay for, and in reality it is a fraction of the cost of an equal Canon or Nikon lens. This is an amazing lens to say the least.
